Mission Statement
1.
To promote, advocate, and advance issues and viewpoints of importance
to Turkish-Americans,
2. To promote fairness in media, education, community affairs,government
activities, and public opinion in regard to issues relating to Turkish-Americans,
and to others with a Turkish heritage,
3. To counter incorrect, biased, and prejudiced statements and
activities aimed at, or defamation of, those of Turkish heritage, arising
either from race, religion, color, language, ethnic identity, or from
malicious intent,and
4. To promote and advocate equality as well as harmonious relations
between those of Turkish heritage and other ethnic groups in the United
States. Towards this purpose, the organization will work
a. to inform and educate the Turkish-American
community in the United States in regard to its rights, representation,
and issues of concern,
b. to inform and educate lawmakers, politicians, media, business
people, educational institutions, and to raise public awareness through
the dissemination of objective information relating to issues of importance
and concern to Turkish-Americans.
c. to organize and undertake activities in the educational,
civic, media, business, political, and legal arenas, as may be necessary
to carry out its mission, and
d. to establish friendly working relations with other organizations
which promote ethnic, racial, and religious understanding and equality.
TAAF is not and
does not aim to be a substitute for regional cultural and social Turkish-American
Associations or chapters. Instead, TAAF's overarching objective is to
increase the societal effectiveness of the Turkish-American community
and its interests. We expect and encourage our members to also remain
active in their regional Turkish-American Association or chapter.
